DESCRIPTION:
The shed itself is a three road structure in the Cathedral styling, typical
of ex G&SWR sheds such as Ayr and Hurlford, and like those depots it
fuels its locomotives from a basic wooden coaling stage. Unusually, for a
small depot, it boasts a 70 foot turntable, capable of handling the largest
express locomotives.
St. Marnock does not have its own locomotive allocation, but plays host to
visitors from Ayr, Hurlford and Glasgow’s Corkerhill and Polmadie depots.
Express locomotives from major depots south of the Border, such as Carlisle
Kingmoor and Leeds Holbeck appear regularly.
